Matthew's story about Jesus begins with a family tree that shows Jesus comes from King David's family. This is important because it means Jesus is the one God promised to send to help Israel. The family tree shows that God always keeps His promises, and Jesus' coming was part of God's plan to save everyone. Matthew wants us to see that everything God said would happen in the Old Testament came true through Jesus.
